SUNYAC Men's Hockey: Canton Kangaroos @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals January 16th 2026

Canton's Alexander Colton (17) scored the first-period goal to give the Kangaroos a 1-0 lead. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would return home for the first time in a couple of weeks, and they would host North Country for the Canton Kangaroos in SUNYAC action in front of 1269 fans at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena. The upset-minded Kangaroos would get the first goal of the game from Colton Alexander on the power play at the 15:03 mark of the period. The Kangaroos would waste little time in extending their lead to 2-0 on the Scott Cremen goal just two minutes later to make it 2-0. The game would stay there all the way to the 3:51 mark of the third period when Jake Sacratini would score for the Cardinals and make it a 2-1 game. From there, the Cardinals would give them everything they had for the rest of the period, going for the tying goal, but it wouldn't come, and the Kangaroos would get the empty-netter in the closing minute from Alexander Colton as they secured the 3-1 win. In the winning effort, Trey Miller made 43 saves as they went to 6-8 on the season. As the Cardinals would combine for 22 saves, they fall to 7-8-1 on the season. NCAA Women's Hockey: Suffolk Rams @ #15 Plattsburgh State Cardinals January 16th 2026

Plattsburgh State's Emily Kasprzak (22) with the clean open ice hit on Suffolk's Julia Holmes in the open ice as they go after the puck. The #15 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would return to the Ronald Stafford Ice Arena for the first time in two months with a non-conference tilt against the Suffolk Rams in front of 300 fans. The Cardinals would get the opening goal of the game at the 7:12 mark of the first period when Zoe Puc would find the back of the nnetfor the 1-0 lead. The Rams would fight back and tie the game at the 11:40 mark of the period, when Bella Schmidt scored to make it a-1 The Cardinals would come back and regain the lead at 2-1 on a power-play goal by Seeyoung Yoo at the 17:30 mark of the first. In the second period, the Cardinals would get the lone goal of the period at the 11:34 mark when Kayson Ruegge scored a shorthanded marker to make it 3- The game would stay there till the 10:06 mark of the third when Kayson Ruegge would net her second of the game to increase the lead to 4-1 Then just a minute later Brooke Terry would score for the Cardinals to make it a 5-1 game. The Cardinals ended their three-minute blitz with a goal from Emily Kasprzak to make it 6-1, and they would cruise to the win. In the Cardinals' winning effort, Chloe Lewis made 14 saves as they went to 8-5 on the season. Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Girl's Basketball: Beekmantown Eagles @ Plattsburgh Hornets January 14th 2026

Beekmantown's Olivia Miller (2) with the three from the wing as the Eagles tried to cut into the deficit. It would be a return to Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action, as we are in the last month of the season, and teams are starting to make that playoff push. The Plattsburgh Hornets would host crosstown rival Beekmantown Eagles in girls' basketball action. The game started well for the home Hornets, who jumped out to a 12-2 lead after the first quarter. The Hornets would keep their foot on the gas in the second quarter as they would have aa19-2 quarter behind some great defense and take the 31-4 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter, the Eagles would find their offense and play with the Hornets, scoring 12 points, but the game was still 42-16 as they entered the fourth. In the fourth quarter, the Eagles would again stay with the Hornets, 13-10, but the deficit would be too much, as the Hornets held on for the 52-29 victory. In the winning effort,t the Hornets would go to 7-4 on the season while the Eagles would fall to 4-3. Gallery

Plattsburgh's Ava Weiss (14) with the mid-range jumper for the score as the Hornets would defeat the Eagles 52-29. It would be a return to Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action, as we are in the last month of the season, and teams are starting to make that playoff push. The Plattsburgh Hornets would host crosstown rival Beekmantown Eagles in girls' basketball action. It would be the 3rd annual Amy McLane Memorial Scholarship game at the AC North Arena, and it would once again feature the Plattsburgh Hornets and the Saranac Spartans in front of a packed house. The Hornets would get the opening goal of the game at the 13:05 mark of the first period when Owen Dubay would light the lamp, and that's where the first period would end. The Spartans would answer at the 1:39 mark of the second period, when Brady McComber scored to tie the game at 1. The game would stay there till the 7:39 mark of the second period when Ben Bezio would give the Hornets the 2-1 lead. The Spartans would come back again and tie the game at 2 on the Deacon Giroux goal at the 13:26 mark. The game would not be rematched for Vong, as the Hornets regained the lead at 3-2 on Tames Bayer's goal, and that was where the period would end. Then at the 5:42 mark of the second period, the Hornets would take their first two-goal lead thanks to Ben Bezio at 4-2. The Spartans would answer back again at the 8:10 mark of the period when Gabe Moore would sink it by and make it a 4-3 game. The Hornets would answer back again and stretch their lead back to 2 at 5-3 when Sam Bezio scored. Then, in the closing time of the game, the Hornets would add the empty-netter for the 6-3 win. The Clinton Community College would return home to start the 2026 portion of their season as they would take on the Hudson Valley Community College Vikings in NJCAA Region III action. It would be a game of runs, but the Vikings would always seem to have just a little more or just a little better run, and they would have the 43-33 lead after the first half. When the teams returned for the second half, it would be more of the same. Still, the Cougars would have their chances, getting within a couple of points at different times. Still, mental mistakes down the stretch would cost the Cougars, as they would win the half 44-39 but fall 82-7. In the losing effort for the Cougars, they were led by Jeffrey Collins Weeks III, who went to 3-8 on the season. As for the Hudson Valley Community College Vikings, Julius Reed led the way with 33 points as they improved to 6-8 in the season. The Clinton Community College would return home to start the 2026 portion of their season as they would take on the Hudson Valley Community College Vikings in NJCAA Region III action. It would be a game of runs, but the Vikings would always seem to have just a little more or just a little better run, and they would have the 43-33 lead after the first half. When the teams returned for the second half, it would be more of the same. Still, the Cougars would have their chances, getting within a couple of points at different times. SUNYAC Men's Hockey: Plattsburgh State Cardinals @ Skidmore Thoroughbreds January 10th 2026

Plattsburgh State's Quinn Tavares (19) with the hard hit into the glass on Skidmore's Jacob Zwirecki (7) that knocks him off the puck. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would return to conference play after nearly two months away, traveling to Saratoga to take on the newest member of the SUNYAC, the Skidmore Thoroughbreds, at the Saratoga Springs Ice Arena in front of 500 fans. The Thoroughbreds would take the 1-0 lead at the 12:22 mark of the first on the Matthew Franzoi goal. The game would stay there until the 5:44 mark of the second period, when Matthew Franzoi would get his second of the night and make it 2-0. The Cardinals would answer back 2:08 later with the shorthanded goal by Vlad Pshenichnikov and make it a 2-1 game. The Cardinals would score again 31 seconds later and tie the game at two on Riley Sutherland's goal. The game would remain tied till the 15:58 mark of the third period when the Thoroughbreds' Coleman Jenkins would score to make it 3-2. Then, in the closing seconds of the game, Tyler Fogu would add the empty netter for the Thoroughbreds and secure the 4-2 victory. In the winning effort for the Thoroughbreds, Tommy Aitken would make 21 saves as they went to 6-6-2 on the season. As for the Cardinals, Brady Spry would make 33 saves as they fall to 7-7-1 on the season, as they both will play Potsdam and Canton next weekend. Gallery
