Felix Roy (91) captures the checkered flag in the third annual Leon Gonyo Memorial and gets the $4,000 first place check on the day. After Mother Nature wouldn't cooperate the first couple of weeks, it would take three on the opening racing of the 2026 Season from the Airborne Park Speedway. It would be the third annual Leon Gonyo Memorial 40, with $4,000 going to the winner of the 358 Modified race, along with $1,000 going to the winner of the JS Steel Sportsman Modified. Other classes in action on the day were the Renegades Limited Sportsman Modified, Mini Stocks, and Crown Vics. After all the heat races were done the first main out of the box would be the Crown Vics for there 20 lap affair would see Richie Turner take the lead off the start of the race and would let up on lead and take it green to checkered for the win he would have a challenge though from Trevor Jaques but he would not be able to get around the former Renegade champion. Scott Richner would round out the top three. Then we would have the 30 JS Steel Sportsman Modified, with the cool $1,000 going to the race winner. It would see Travis Bruno get the lead off the start of the race, and he would be under fire early from Nick Heywood. Still, with a mid-race caution, it would rerake the deck to come down the stretch, and it would see Shane Pecore blast to the lead around Heywood and Bruno, and that would be enough to get the win and take the $1,000 back north of the broader, and Nick Heywood and Travis Bruno would round out the top three. Then it would be time for the main event of the evening with 358 Modifieds going 40 laps for $4,000 to the winner. It would see Tim Fuller get the lead off the start of the race, and for the early part of the race, Louie Jackson would challenge him for the win, but there would be some movers in the middle of the field with last year's champion, Mike Mahanney, and Billy Dunn coming up and throwing their hand into the mix. There would be a restart with about five laps to go, with Fuller, Roy, Mahaney, and Dunn in the front two rows as they go after the win. It would be Felix Roy who would get around them all and take it line for the win and collect the $4,000 check, as Billy Dunn and Mike Mahaney would round out the top three. Then it would be time for the Limited Sportsman Modified 20-lap event, and it would see an early duel between Brogan Roberts and Gary English for the lead. Roberts would start pulling away some, but a hard charger like David Johnson would come up to battle for the win, and in the closing laps, he would get around Roberts for the win. Then it would be the Mini Stocks for the 15-lap race, and the battle for the whole race would be between two racers in the likes of Jacob Fountain and Kenny Tourville that would see them swap the lead back and forth a few times, and in the end, Kenny Tourville would get to the line first for the win. Then it would be time for the final race of the opening night of racing. It would be the Renegades for 20 laps, as an opening-lap crash would see a couple of major players from last season get damaged, and then, off the restart, Tylor Terry would get the lead. Still, he would have a battle with Billy Thwaits, and Thwaits would get the lead and not give up for the first win of the season. The racetrack will come back to life on May 7th as they begin their Thursday-night portion of the season. Gallery

The Suffern Mounties are crowned the 2026 NYSPHSAA Boys' Hockey State Champions with there 5-2 victory over the Canton Golden Bears. It was Championship Sunday at the LECOM Harbor Center as all roads led to Buffalo, where the #4 Suffern Mounties from Section I took on the #7 Canton Golden Bears from Section X, with both teams looking to go home with the title. The upset‑minded Golden Bears opened the scoring just 1:58 into the game on a goal from Caleb Briggs for a 1–0 lead. The Mounties answered back 90 seconds later on a goal by Matthew Norum to tie the game at one. At the 11:47 mark of the first period, the Golden Bears regained the lead, 2–1, on a goal from Owen Logan, and that’s how the first period ended. At the 14:17 mark of the second period, Kevin Windwer scored to tie the game, and the period ended knotted at two. The game remained tied until the 14:47 mark of the third period, when Sean Tyrell made his presence known by giving the Mounties a 3–2 lead. In the closing minutes, the Mounties added a pair of empty‑net goals from Sean Tyrell and Anthony Ruggiero as they secured their 4th state title in the last five years. In the winning effort for the Mounties, Tyler Grossman made 25 saves, while Canton’s Gavin Schryver stopped 30 shots on the afternoon. Gallery.

The Rye Garnet are crowned the 2026 NYSPHSAA Division II Boys Hockey champions with the 5-1 victory. It would be Championship Sunday from Buffalo as it would be an all–Section I NYSPHSAA Boys Hockey Division II Championship, with the #2 Byram Hills Bobcats facing off against the #3 Rye Garnets. The Bobcats opened the scoring at the 4:51 mark of the first period on a goal from Christian Cipriano. The Garnets answered back at 8:14 when Jamie Morris scored to tie the game at one. Just over two minutes later, the Garnets took a 2–1 lead on a goal by Ryan Draddy. Then, with 55 seconds left in the first period, the Garnets extended their lead to 3–1 on a goal from Colin Nigro, and that’s how the period would end. In the second period, Will Weinman scored at the 12:05 mark to make it a 4–1 Garnets lead on the lone goal of the frame. In the third period, the Garnets put the icing on the cake with Ryan Draddy’s second goal of the game at the 12:43 mark for a 5–1 advantage. In the winning effort for the Garnets, Fernando Mosquera made 17 saves as they captured the state title. As for the Bobcats, Lucas Guggenheimer was impressive in his own right, making 63 saves. Suffern's Sean Tyrell (17) with the shot on net as he would have the game of the weekend as he would have a 5-goal morning as Suffern would have the 5-3 victory over Pittsford. It would be the opening game of the 2026 NYSPHSAA Boys' Hockey Championship at the LECOM Harbor Center, and it would feature the #4 Suffern Mounties from Section I and the #5 Pittsford Panthers from Section V in the Semi-Finals of Division 1. The Mounties would strike first in the opening minutes from Sean Tyrell for the 1-0 lead. The Mounties would strike again in the last minute of the first period from Sean Tyrell again to give them the 2-0 lead at the end of the first period. The game would stay there till the 11th minute of the second period when Sean Tyrell would score again to complete the hat trick and take the 3-0 lead. The Panthers would have an answer right back, though, when Evan Weiner would score on the rebound to make it a 3-1 game. The Mounties would answer right back when Sean Tyrell would get his 4th goal of the game a minute later to make it a 4-1 game. The Panthers answer again with 34 seconds left in the second when Casey Reagan stuffs it away in the top corner for the 3-2 game. With five minutes left in the game, the Mounties and Panthers would trade goals with Sean Tyrell getting his 4th of the game for the Mounties while David Pollard would score for the Panthers and make it a 4-3 game. The Mounties would add the empty netter down the stretch and secure the 5-3 victory and a spot in tomorrow's NYSPHSAA Division 1 Boys' Hockey Championship. Gallery.

The Canton Golden Bears celebrate as they get the game-winner a minute into overtime to give them the 3-2 victory over the West Genesee. It would be the second semi-final of the NYSPHSAA Division I Boys' Hockey Championships at LECOM Harbor Center, featuring the #3 West Genesee Wildcats from Section III and the #7 Canton Golden Bears from Section X, with the winner facing the #4 Suffern Mounties for the title tomorrow. The Wildcats would get the opening goal of the game at the 10:17 mark from Matthew Schneid for the 1-0 lead. The Golden Bears would answer back in the last minute of the period, with Caleb Briggs tying the game at one as the first period ended. The Golden Bears would come out on fire in the second period and take the lead 3:35 in on an Owen Logan goal, making it 2-1. The Wildcats would answer right back 37 seconds later on the Sammy Vormwald goal, making it 2-2. The game would stay there through the third period, as there would be no scoring, and they would need overtime to decide the last spot in the championship. It wouldn't take long, though, as Owen Logan would score just 54 seconds in as the Golden Bears secure the 3-2 victory and their spot in the finals tomorrow. Byram Hill's Christian Cipriano (20) with the hard on the beekmantown defender as they skated pass the bench going after the puck as they get the 5-2 victory. It would be the first of two semifinals in the NYSPHSAA Division II Boys' Hockey Championships, featuring the #2 Bryam Hills Bobcats from Section I and the #4 Beekmantown Eagles from Section VII. The Eagles would jump out to a 1-0 lead just 3:03 into the game on a Pryce Parker goal. The Eagles would keep it going and make it a 2-0 game on the Mason Carter goal at the 8:50 mark of the first period. The Bobcats would answer right back, though, and make it a 2-1 game 49 seconds later on the Andrey Pytel goal, and that's how the first period would come to an end. The game would stay there until the 14:23 mark of the second period, when the Bobcats would tie the game at two on an Andrew Tymus goal, the lone goal of the second period. The Bobcats would get their first lead of the game at the 8:58 mark of the third period on Kai Licznerski's power play goal to make it a 3-2 game. Rye Garnet get the game winner in overtime from Jack McGill as they head to the championship with the 3-2 win. It was the final game of four on the day at the LECOM Harborcenter, as the #1 Clarence Red Devils from Section VI met the #3 Rye Garnets from Section I in the second semifinal of the NYSPHSAA Division II Boys’ Hockey Championships. The upset‑minded Garnets opened the scoring at the 8:26 mark of the first period when Finn Draddy found the net, and that would be the lone goal of the opening frame. The Red Devils came out strong in the second period, tying the game just 1:32 in on a power‑play goal from Jeremy Drugi. Clarence kept the pressure on and took a 2–1 lead three minutes later when Taylor Regian scored, and that was how the second period ended. The score remained 2–1 until the 14:38 mark of the third period, when Will Weinman scored on the power play to force the game into overtime. In the extra session, Jack McGill completed the upset for the Garnets, sending the #1 team in the state home and setting up an all–Section I final, where they would face the Byram Hills Bobcats on championship Sunday. The Lisbon Golden Knights celebrate after defeating the Moriah Vikings 32-30 and advancing to the Quarterfinals on Saturday against Greenwich. It would be the opening round of the NYSPHSAA Class C Girls' Basketball Tournament. We would have a battle inside the top ten as the #8 Lisbon Golden Knights from Section X would do battle with the #10 Moriah Vikings from Section VII at the Florence Gym at Clinton Community, with the winner advancing to Section II in the Quarterfinals. It would be a defensive battle to start the game, as both teams looked to control the paint on defense. The Golden Knights would have a slim 10-8 lead after the first quarter. It would stay low-scoring through the second quarter as well, but the Vikings would win the quarter 7-6, and the Golden Knights would have the 16-15 lead at intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter, it would remain a defensive battle, and the Golden Knights would have an 8-7 quarter and take the 24-22 lead into the fourth. In the fourth quarter, both teams would have chances to win and advance, but they would tie the quarter at 8, and the Golden Knights would get the 32-30 victory and go to the Quarterfinals. In the Golden Knights' victory, they went to 18-5, with Allison Bell leading the way with 19 points, as they head to the quarterfinals against Greenwich. As for the Moriah Vikings, Lezi Macarenas would lead the way with 12 points as their season comes to an end. Gallery

Northern Adirodack's Shane Gilmore (42) with the finger roll for the score as part of a 14 point effort in the 64-42 win over the Lisbon Golden Knights. It would be the opening round of the New York State Public High School Athletic Assocation Class C Boy's Basketball Tournament and it would feature the #25 Lisbon Golden Knights and the Northern Adirondack Bobcats from the Florrence Gym at Clinton Community College with the winner getting Section II. It would be tight game through the first quarter as the teams would feel each other out the Bobcats would have the slight 11-9 lead. In the second quarter the Bobcats would find there shot and they would start to pull away with a 19-9 quarter and take the 30-18 lead at the intermission. When the teams would return for the third quarter the Bobcats would still have there hot hand as they would have a 21-6 and take the 51-24 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter with the game pretty much all determined the Golden Knights would have a 18-13 but the Northern Adirondack Bobcats would get the 64-42 victory. In the winning effort the Bobcats Luke Moore would lead the way with 19 points as they go to 16-8 on the season and advance to the quarterfinals. In the losing effort for the Golden Knights Ian Quinlan leads the way with 15 points as they finish there season at 14-7. Gallery

The Quinnipiac Bobcats are crowned the 2026 ECAC Hockey Conference Women's Champions with a 5-1 win over the Yale Bulldogs. After the ECAC Hockey Conference Men battle for the title at the Herb Brooks Arena for over 20 years, this would be the first time that the Women decide their title there, and the first finals would see the #1 Yale Bulldogs and the #3 Quinnipiac Bobcats go to battle in front of 2,200 fans. The upset-minded Bobcats would get the first answer of the game at the 6:32 mark of the first period when Ella Johnson would get the opening goal to make it a 1-0 game, and that's how the first period ended. The game would stay there till the 9:21 mark of the second period when last night's hero, Avery Bairos, would score to make it a 2-0 Bobcats lead for the lone goal of the second period. The Bobcats would keep coming and at the 3:45 mark of the third period Zoe Uens would score o the powerplay to make it a 3-0 game. Then, at the 12:54 mark of the third period, the Bulldogs would get on the board thanks to Mariya Rauf finding the 5-hole, making it a 3-1 game. Then, with just under three minutes left in the game, the Bobcats would add to empty netters from Ella Johnson and Emerson Jarvis to secure the 5-1 victory and be crowned the 2026 ECAC Hockey Conference Women's Hockey Champion and earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. In the winning effort for the Bobcats, Felicia Frank would make 31 saves as they went to 28-8-3 on the season. As for the Bulldogs, Samson Frey would make 22 saves as they fall to 25-9 on the season and await an NCAA at-large bid to the Tournament. Gallery
