Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Hockey: Saranac Spartans @ Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers February 4th 2025

It would be Section VII Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Hockey action from the Saranac Lake Civic Center as the Saranac Spartans would have to travel there to take on the Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers as we reach the second half of the conference season. The hometown Lakers would get the quick opening goal of the game when Will Landriault lit the lamp just 3:33 into the game as they would take the 1-0 lead On the powerplay. The Spartans would come back and tie the game at the 6:19 mark of the period when Ashton Catlin found the back of the net, and that's where the first period would end tied at one. When the teams returned for the second, Ashton Catlin would find the back of the night again for his second goal at the 3:19 mark of the period and take the 2-1 lead. Then, in the final two minutes of the period, the Spartans would go on a scoring spree they would, scoring three goals in 90 seconds from Ryan Campbell (twice) and Evan Patrie as the Spartans would take the 5-1 lead into the third period. When the teams returned for the third period, the Lakers would keep the hopes of a comeback alive as they would score just 2:34 into the period Ca.rson St Louis would find the net to make it a 5-2 game. From there, the Spartan's defense would clamp down and get the win. In the winning, Shawn Mclane would make 20 saves as they go to 9-5-1 on the season. This weekend, they were on the road for a pair of nonleague games, including taking the Queensbury Spartans and the Saratoga Blue Streaks. As for the Saranac Lake Placid Lakers, Cassidy Goodman would make 35 saves on the night as they fall to 6-8-1 on the season and return to action on February 11th against the Beekmantown Eagles. SUNYAC Women's Basketball: Morrisville State Mustangs @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals February 1st 2025

Plattsburgh State's Jaden Wilson with the open three from the wing as part of a nine-point afternoon. The Morrisville State Mustangs would trek to Plattsburgh and take on the Plattsburgh State Cardinals in Women's Basketball from Memorial Hall in front of 200 fans. The game would start well for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals as they got off to the 17-13 lead after the first quarter. The Mustangs would be up to the fight in the second quarter as they would clamp down, have an 18-8 quarter, and take the 31-25 lead into the break. When the teams would return for the second half, the Cardinals would find their offense and put up a 20 on the Mustangs while giving up 15 and trail 46-45 as they head into the 4th quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Cardinals would keep their offense on fire as they put up another 20 points, and their defense would only give up seven as they would get the 65-53 victory. In the winning effort, the Cardinals' Julia Greek would drop 18 points as they go to 11-8 on the season and head to the road next weekend. SUNYAC Men's Basketball: Morrisville State Mustangs @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals February 1st, 2025

Plattsburgh State's Kareem Welch (13) with the score as he charges down the baseline and lays it off the window for two of his 13 points on the the afternoon. We would have SUNYAC Men's Basketball action from Memorial Hall as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals host the Morrisville State Mustangs as they make their playoff push. The game would start with the Cardinals showing their dominance as they would get off to a quick big lead, but the Mustangs would keep coming back and have the 38-36 lead after the first half. When the teams returned for the second half, the Mustangs would keep the offense up and, at one point down the stretch, would have a couple-digit lead, win the half 48-44, and hold on for the 86-80 victory. In the winning effort for the Mustangs, Kareem Sanders scored 21 points, and they went 10-8 in the season. SUNYAC Men's Hockey: Oswego State Lakers @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals February 1st 2025

Plattsburgh State's Shane Bondy (16) picks the from along the boards and races in on the attack. It would be the classic rivalry from the sold-out Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Oswego State Lakers in SUNYAC Men's Hockey action. The game would start well for the home Cardinals as they would get the game's opening goal just 3:51 in on the power play goal from Tyler Ramm to make it a 1-0 Cardinals lead. The game would stay there till there was 2:38 left in the first period when Shane Bondy would make it a 2-0 game on the powerplay goal, and that's where the first period would end. When the teams returned for the second period, the Lakers would get on the board at 6:38, and Matt McQuade scored at 6:38. The Lakers would come back and tie the game at two on the powerplay goal from Brandon Cohen at the 14:03 mark of the period, and that's where the second period would end. The Cardinals would come out on fire and retake the lead at 3-2 on Tyler Ramm's second goal of the game on the powerplay at the 2:57 mark. The lead would be short-lived as the Lakers would tie the game back up at three on the Daniel Colabufo goal at 4:23. Then, just 91 seconds later, the Lakers would regain their lead at 4-3 on Brandon Cohen's second goal of the game. Then, at the 10:57 mark of the period, the Lakers would take control of the game on Matt McQuade's second goal to make it a 5-3 game, and that's where the game would end. In the winning effort for the Lakers, Brandon Milberg made 20 saves on the night, and they went to 11-6-3 in the season. SUNYAC Women's Hockey: #10 Cortland State Red Dragons @ #6 Plattsburgh State Cardinals December 31st 2025

Plattsburgh State's Kayson Ruegge (3), with the puck on edge, fires the shot on net as they go for the tying goal. It would be a top ten showdown at the RRonaldb Staford Ice Arena as the #6 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the #10 Cortland State Red Dragons in front of 300 fans in a plate for second place in the SUNYAC. The game's lone goal would come from hometown native Mckenzie Brown at the 9:48 mark of the second period. In the win for the Cortland State Red Dragons, Molly Goergen would make 21 saves in the shut win, and the Red Dragons went to 15-2-2 in the season. As for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals, Chloe Lewis would make 24 saves in defeat as the Cardinals fell to 13-5-1 on the season. SUNYAC Men's Hockey: Canton Kangaroos @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals January 31st 2025

Plattsburgh State's Jake Lanyi (37) with the off-balance shot on net as he split through the defenders in the slot. It would be a north country battle inside the SUNYAC Conference as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Canton Kangaroos from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena in front of 1200 fans. There would be no scoring in the first period as defense would be the name of the game, as the teams would combine for 15 shots in the period. In the second period, the Kangaroos would break through and get the opening goal at the 6:15 mark,ewhichewascKinnon would score and anchor 1-0. The Kangaroos would keep coming, adding a shorthanded goal at the 11:19 mark of the period when Jackson Drysdale would light the lamp and make it a 2-0 game. In the third period, the Cardinals would have their best offensive period of the night as they would have nine shots on the net and pull the goalie with about three minutes left in the net, but they would not be able to find the back of the net on this day. The Canton Kangaroos would pull off the 2-0 upset on the evening as Nate Hopkins would make 23 saves in a shutout victory as they go to 6-12-1 on the season and take on neighbor the Potsdam State Bears tomorrow night. As for the Cardinals, they will fall to 10-8-1 on the season as Jacob Hearne makes 24 saves, not the night, and they will be back in action tomorrow night as they take on rival Oswego State. Gallery

Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Basketball: #9 Moriah Vikings @ Plattsburgh Hornets Januaty 29th 2025

Plattsburgh's Troy Bushey (34) with the score as he drives to the hoop for the scoring attempt. It would be a battle inside the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host the #9 Moriah Vikings in Boy's Basketball action. Both teams would have the offense going in the first quarter, and we would be deadlocked at the end of the first quarter at 16 a piece. The offenses were still hot in the second quarter as the Hornets would take the quarter 13-10, and the Hornets would take the 29-26 lead into the halftime break. When the teams returned for the third quarter, the Vikings would come out hot and look to return to the game. After the third quarter, they would take the lead with a 15-10 quarter and have a slim 41-39 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Hornets would take the quarter 15-13 and go to overtime tied at 54. Although coming down the stretch, both teams would have their chances to win it but couldn't cash in the winning basket. In the overtime period, the Hornets would have a 6-5 quarter, the Vikings would fall on the winning shot as the clock expired, and the Hornets would have the 60-59 victory. In the winning effort for the Hornets, Bryan Kemokai would have 27 points as they go to 8-5 on the season and will be back in action on Saturday against the Ogdensburg Blue Devils. As for the Moriah Vikings, they fall to 10-3 on the season, as Cooper Allen and Chase McGinmess have 14 points each night and will be back in action on Monday against Ticonderoga. Gallery

SUNYAC Men's Basketball Potsdam State Bears @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals January 28th, 2025

It would be the battle of the North Country from Memorial Hall as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Potsdam State Bears in Men's Basketball action in front of 575 fans. The game would be tight through the first half as the Cardinals would have the 45-40 lead in a breakneck pace game after the first half. In the second half, it would come down to the last 10 seconds of the game as the Cardinals would come down and hit a layup from Ikechukwu Ezikea to give them the 75-74 lead. But then the Bears would take the inbound pass with three seconds left, and Nicholas Cortez would hit a three-pointer for the win past half court to beat the buzzer as the Bears got the 77-75 victory. In the winning effort, the Bears' Nicholas Cortez would lead the team with 27 points as they go to 3-14 on the season and head into their next game against the Morrisville State Mustangs. As for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals, Kareem Welch would lead the team with fourteen points as they fall to 9-8 on the season and head into their next game against the Cortland State Red Dragons. Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Hockey: Plattsburgh Hornets @ #14 Saranac Spartans January 25th 2025

Plattsburgh's Sam Bezio (10) comes after the puck as Saranac's Brody MaComner (4) breaks in on the net and gets knocked off the pu.ck before he gets there. It would be the second annual Aimee McLane Memorial Scholarship game from the American North Sports Center; The #14 Saranac Spartans would be hosting the Plattsburgh Hornets as the teams would battle for the conference lead at the season's midpoint. The game would remain scoreless after the period, but not because of the lack of effort on the ice, as the Spartans would outshot the Hornets 16-6. The Hornets would get the game's opening goal at the 9:34 mark of the period when Braden Calkins would snip it by Shawn McLane for the first goal and make it a 1-0 game. Then, in the period's closing minute, the Hornets would get the all-important two-goal lead as Braden Calkins would find the net again for the second time and take the 2-0 lead into the intermission. When the team returned for the third period, both teams would go after it again as the Spartans were hoping for the early goal in the period to help down the stretch. The Spartans would get on the board, but it would be late at the 15:28 mark when Landon Giroux would score on the scramble play to make it a 2-1 game. However, this night, Plattsburgh Hornets Owen Chapple was up to the task as he would make 44 of 45 saves on the night as they go to 6-6-2 and will be back into action Friday night against the Beekmantown Eagles. While Sean McLane would be good in his own right as he would make 18 saves as they fall to 8-5-1 on the season and will be back in action next Tuesday at Saranac Lake to take on the Sara Placid Lakers Gallery

NYSPHSAA Boy's Hockey: Bellows Free Academy Bobwhites @ Beekmantown Eagles January 28th 2025

Beekmantown's Pryce Parker (44) stuffs it in between the Bellow Free Academy goalie and the post to make it a 4-2 game. We would have nonconference hockey from the Plattsburgh State Fieldhouse as the Beekmantown Eagles would take on out-of-state foe the Bellows Free Academy Bobwhites in Boy's Hockey action. Getting started would be a tight game as both teams would have their chances in the first period, but no one could get it in the back of the net for a score. The Bobwhites would get on the board first in the second period as they would score three goals in a span of 1:27 to take the 3-0 lead. The Eagles would get on the board with 2:41 left when Edward S would get them on the board and make it a 3-1 game after the second period. The third period would open up with the Bobwhites and regain their three-goal lead at 4-1 just 1:20 into the period. The Eagles would answer right back with a goal from Pryce Parker just 90 seconds later to make it a 4-2 game. From there, the Bobwhite's defense would be up to the task and hold on for the win. In the winning effort for the Bobwhites, Phoenix Wells would make 37 saves in the afternoon as they go to 4- 5- 1 on the season and head into their next game against Champlain Valley Union. As for the Beekmantown Eagles, Jake Bell would make 16 saves as they go to 8-5-1 on the season and head into their next game, February 5th, against Northeastern Clinton Cougars. Gallery
