It would be the second straight night of the Plattsburgh Hornets and Beekmantown Eagles rivalry from Plattsburgh, as we would have Boy Basketball action this time. The game would start well for the home Hornets as they would jump out to the 14-8 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Hornets would step up their game on both ends as they would hold the Eagles to just 5 points in, scoring 21 of their own and taking the 35-13 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter, it would almost be like a couple of rounds as the Eagles would come out soaring, have a 20-8 quarter, and cut it down to a ten-point game as it would be 43-33 Hornets after three. It would be the most equal one of the day in the fourth quarter as the Hornets would win the quarter 15-13 as they secure the 58-mandatory. In the winning effort for the Hornets, they will go to 7-2 on the season as Danny Hartman will lead the way with 28 points as they head into their next game against the Saranac Lake Red Storm on the road Friday. Beekmantown's Payton Parliment (13) slices through a pair of Hornets for the score as she leads the night in scoring. We would have Champlain Valley Athletic Conference girls's Basketball action from the Plattsburgh High School as the Hornets would host their neighbors in their annual rivalry game against the Beekmantown Eagles. The Eagles would come out flying in the first, doubling the Hornets with a 13-7 quarter. In the second quarter, the Eagle's defense would be top-notch for the eight minutes as they would hold the Hornets off the scoreboard with a 13-0 quarter and take a convincing lead of 26-7 lead at the end of the first half. When the teams return for the third, it would be a bit more of a competitive quarter, but the Eagles would still be on top with a 14-9 quarter and take the 40-16 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Eagles would empty the bench and score high on both ends, but the Hornets would only win the quarter by one at 16-15 as the Eagles would get the 55-38 victory. In the winning effort for the Eagles, they would go to 6-4 on the season as they head into their next game on Thursday against Ausable Valley. The Seton Catholic Knights would host the Bolton Eagles in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference from Seton Catholic in Girl's Basketball action. The game would get off to a good start for the Eagles, racing out to a 13-4 lead after the first quarter. It will be more of the same in the second quarter as they stay hot with a 13-2 quarter and take the 26-6 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter, it would be a closer match as the Knights would find some offense, and the Eagles would win the quarter 8-6 and take the 34-12 lead into the 4th quarter. It would be another t, right quarter in the fourth quarter, but the Eagles would still be better with a 10-8 quarter as they secure the 44-20 victory. In the winning effort, the Bolton Eagles go to 9-1 on the season as they head into their game on Wednesday against Keene. Plattsburgh State's Jake Sacratino (28) with the shoot on the net over the defenders stick with the flex. It would be the return of a classic rivalry at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Middlebury Panthers in the first of two games on Cancer Awareness weekend in front of 1,200 fans. The game would be scoreless through the opening two periods as the defenses would stand tall that night. The Cardinals would finally break through and get the game's opening goal at the 1:18 mark of the third period on the powerplay when Ttler Ramm would make it a 1-0 Cardinals game. The game would stay there till the 16:20 mark of the period when the Panthers would tie the game up at one on the Dimitri Tzaferis goal. The game would go to overtime tied at one, and in the extra frame, Cardinals Aaron Catron would find the back of the night for the game-winner at the 1:23 mark to give the Cardinals a 2-1 win. Jacob Hearne would make 15 saves in the winning effort as they go to 8-6-1 and head into their game against Wiltheir. As for the Middlebury Panthers would fall to 7-7 on the season as Andrew Heinze would make 33 saves on the night as they head into their game next Friday against Bowdoin. Gallery

NCAA Division III Men's Hockey Comfort Inn Winter Classic: #10 Wilkes Colonels Vs Wentworth Leopards January 12th 2025

It would be the second day of the Comfort Inn Winter Classic, and start with the consolation game between the #10 Wilkes Colonels and the Wentworth Leopards from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. The Leopards would get the game's opening goal at the 7:55 mark of the first period from Ian Worthley to give them the 1-0 lead. The CColonelswould come back and tie the game at 1the 2:12 mark of the period on the rebound goal from Christian Blomquist, and that's where the first period would end. The game would stay there until the 5:18 mark of the third period when the Leopards would take the lead on the snip from George Kolovos for the 2-1 lead. Then, with the goalie pulled in the closing minutes of regulation, the Colonles would tie the game up on the Miles Harrington score with 1:38 left. The teams would head to overtime, where George Kolovos would get the game-winner on the rebound to complete the upset victory. Jack McGovern would make 48 saves on the afternoon in the winning effort for the Leopards, as they would go to 5-8-2 on the season and upset the #10 Wilkes Colonels. As for the Colones, they would fall to 9-5 on the season as Duncan Rolleman would make 25 saves in the loss.

NCAA Division III Men's Hockey Comfort Inn Winter Classic: #15 University of New England Noreasters @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals January 12th 2025

Plattsburgh State's Kevin Weaver Vitale (8) with the goal that sneaks by the defenders and goalie to make it a 3-2 game down the stretch. It would be the 2025 Comfort Inn Winter Classic championship game from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. It would also see the host Plattsburgh State Cardinals taking on the #15 University of New England Noreasters in front of 1,100 fans. It would take until the early stages of the second period before we would get our first score of the game, where it would see the Noreasters take the 1-0 lead on the power play goal from Juraj Elias at the 2:55 mark. The game would stay there till the final 5 seconds of the period when the Noreaster's Drew Olivieri would beat the clock and give the Noreasters the 2-0 lead after the second period. The Cardinals would come out on fire in the third period and get the game to 2-1 just 1:50 into the period on the Colin Callahan goal. The game would stay there till the 12:48 mark of the period when Drew Olivieri would score his second of the night and regain the two-goal lead at 3-1. However, the Cardinals would keep fighting and get the game within one again with 2:20 left when Kevin Weaver Vitale would roof the shot to make it 3-2. However, the Noreasters would finish the game in the final 13 seconds on the Nathan Chickering empty netter to secure the 4-2 victory. In the winning effort for the Noreasters, Stefan Carney made 27 saves, and they went to 9-5-1 in the season. As for the Cardinals, Jacob Heane would make 28 saves as they fall to 7-6-1 on the season and head into their games next weekend against Middlebury and Williams. Gallery

Plattsburgh State's Aaron Catron (12) comes down on the breakaway attempt as they look to extend their lead against the Leopards. It would be the 2025 edition of the Comfort Inn Winter Classic from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena, and the second semi-final on the day would see the host Plattsburgh State Cardinals take on the Wentworth Leopards, with the winner getting the #15 University of New England Noreasters in front of 1200 fans. The game would start well for the home Cardinals as they would get the opening goal from Jack Ring. The Leopards would come back two minutes later with a short-handed goal from Alex Walicki to tie the game at 1. Then the Cardinals would answer back at the ten-minute mark with two goals in 35 seconds from Kevin Weaver Vitale and Colin Callahan to make it 3-1 after the first period. When the teams returned for the second period, the Leopards would make it a one-goal game again just a minute into the Mighton Johnson goal to make it a 3-2 game. However, the Cardinals would return at the 7:47 mark of the period on the Brannon Butler goal to regain their two-goal lead at 4-2. It would be short-lived, though, cause the Leopards would answer back 35 seconds later on the Nicholas Ramm goal to make it a 4-3 game. The game would stay there till the closing minute of the game when Riley Sutherland would add an empty netter for the Cardinals to secure the 5-3 victory. Jacob Hearne would make 18 saves in the winning effort as they go to 7-5-1 on the season and will take on the #15 University of New England in the Comfort Inn Winter Classic finals. As for the Wentworth Leopards, they fall to 4-8-2 in the season and will take on #10 Wilkes. Gallery

University of New England's Nathan Chickering (14) with the goal on the penalty for one of his two goals on the game in the 7-2 win. It would be the opening game of the 2025 edition of the Comfort Inn Winter Classic, and it would see a pair of top 15 teams as the #10 Wilkes Colonels would take on the #15 University of New England Noreasters from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena with 286 people in attendance. The Noreasters would get the game's opening goal at the 3:16 mark of the first period from Drew Olivieri to make it a 1-0. The Colonels would return and tie the game at one in the closing stages of the first period from Max Cocchi. From there, the Noreasters would go on a scoring spree in the 2nd and 3rrd periods as they would add six unanswered goals from Ryan Kuzmich (twice), David Wilcox, Will Spitzer, and Nathan Chickering (twice), and it would end with them having a 7-1 lead. The Colonels would add 1 of their own with ten seconds left in the game on the shorthand from Lorenzo Marcolin as the Noreasters would get the 7-2 win and advance to the championship with the upset win. In the winning effort for the Noreasters, Stefan Carney made 26 saves for the win, as they went to 8-5-1 in the season. Saranac Lake Placid Gerald Woodruff (14) with the check on the Hornets attacker to break up the play behind the net. We would have Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Hockey, and for the second time in a week, the Saranac Lake Placid Lakers would come to Plattsburgh and the Ameri-can Sports Center as they would take on the Plattsburgh Hornets. The Hornets would get on the board at the 10:45 mark of the first period on the Chase Laravia goal to make it a 1-0 game. Then, about 90 seconds later, the Hornets would expand their lead to 2-0 on the Lucas Dashnaw goal, and that's where the first period would end. The game would stay there till the third period, as there would be no scoring in the second period. In the third period, the Hornets would make it a 3-0 game at the 11:12 mark on the Braeden Calkins. The Lakers would get on the board with just under two minutes left in the game on the Ayden McCormick goal to make it a two-goal game again at 3-1. The Hornets would finish the game in the final minute on the empty netter from Braeden CalkCalkins'l to secure the 4-1 win. With the win, the Plattsburgh Hornets go to 2-4-1 on the season as they head into their tournament in Albany next weekend. As for the Saranac Lake-Lake Placid, the Lakers go to 3-3 on the season as they head into their meeting with the Beekmantown Eagles. Gallery

Saranac's Madison Gagnier (10) and Plattsburgh's Essence Gorham (12) raise for the opening tip, and the game is underway. It would be Champlain Valley Athletic Conference girls's Basketball action from Plattsburgh High as the Hornets would host #14 Saranac Spartans. It would take some time to get the first score of the game. We would be halfway through the first quarter before our first basket, but when the scoring came, the Spartans would string a few together and have the 11-3 lead after the first quarter. When the second quarter came around, the Hornets would find their shot, but they would not be able to chip into the deficit. The Hornets would win the quarter 12-11, but the Spartans would have the 22-15 lead at the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter, the Spartans would stay hot with an 11-8 quarter and take a 33-20 lead into the fourth quarter. With the Spartans having the game pretty much in hand, it would be a slower pace in the fourth quarter played, and the teams would tie for the quarter at eight as the Spartans would get the 41-28 victory. With the win for the Spartans, they go to 9-2 in the season as they return home next week. As for the Plattsburgh Hornets would fall to 3-6 on the season as they head into their game against the Beekmantown Eagles on Tuesday. Gallery
