Plattsburgh State's Aaron Catron (12) comes down on the breakaway attempt as they look to extend their lead against the Leopards. It would be the 2025 edition of the Comfort Inn Winter Classic from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena, and the second semi-final on the day would see the host Plattsburgh State Cardinals take on the Wentworth Leopards, with the winner getting the #15 University of New England Noreasters in front of 1200 fans. The game would start well for the home Cardinals as they would get the opening goal from Jack Ring. The Leopards would come back two minutes later with a short-handed goal from Alex Walicki to tie the game at 1. Then the Cardinals would answer back at the ten-minute mark with two goals in 35 seconds from Kevin Weaver Vitale and Colin Callahan to make it 3-1 after the first period. When the teams returned for the second period, the Leopards would make it a one-goal game again just a minute into the Mighton Johnson goal to make it a 3-2 game. However, the Cardinals would return at the 7:47 mark of the period on the Brannon Butler goal to regain their two-goal lead at 4-2. It would be short-lived, though, cause the Leopards would answer back 35 seconds later on the Nicholas Ramm goal to make it a 4-3 game. The game would stay there till the closing minute of the game when Riley Sutherland would add an empty netter for the Cardinals to secure the 5-3 victory. Jacob Hearne would make 18 saves in the winning effort as they go to 7-5-1 on the season and will take on the #15 University of New England in the Comfort Inn Winter Classic finals. University of New England's Nathan Chickering (14) with the goal on the penalty for one of his two goals on the game in the 7-2 win. It would be the opening game of the 2025 edition of the Comfort Inn Winter Classic, and it would see a pair of top 15 teams as the #10 Wilkes Colonels would take on the #15 University of New England Noreasters from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena with 286 people in attendance. The Noreasters would get the game's opening goal at the 3:16 mark of the first period from Drew Olivieri to make it a 1-0. The Colonels would return and tie the game at one in the closing stages of the first period from Max Cocchi. From there, the Noreasters would go on a scoring spree in the 2nd and 3rrd periods as they would add six unanswered goals from Ryan Kuzmich (twice), David Wilcox, Will Spitzer, and Nathan Chickering (twice), and it would end with them having a 7-1 lead. The Colonels would add 1 of their own with ten seconds left in the game on the shorthand from Lorenzo Marcolin as the Noreasters would get the 7-2 win and advance to the championship with the upset win. In the winning effort for the Noreasters, Stefan Carney made 26 saves for the win, as they went to 8-5-1 in the season. Saranac Lake Placid Gerald Woodruff (14) with the check on the Hornets attacker to break up the play behind the net. We would have Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Hockey, and for the second time in a week, the Saranac Lake Placid Lakers would come to Plattsburgh and the Ameri-can Sports Center as they would take on the Plattsburgh Hornets. The Hornets would get on the board at the 10:45 mark of the first period on the Chase Laravia goal to make it a 1-0 game. Then, about 90 seconds later, the Hornets would expand their lead to 2-0 on the Lucas Dashnaw goal, and that's where the first period would end. The game would stay there till the third period, as there would be no scoring in the second period. In the third period, the Hornets would make it a 3-0 game at the 11:12 mark on the Braeden Calkins. The Lakers would get on the board with just under two minutes left in the game on the Ayden McCormick goal to make it a two-goal game again at 3-1. The Hornets would finish the game in the final minute on the empty netter from Braeden CalkCalkins'l to secure the 4-1 win. With the win, the Plattsburgh Hornets go to 2-4-1 on the season as they head into their tournament in Albany next weekend. Saranac's Madison Gagnier (10) and Plattsburgh's Essence Gorham (12) raise for the opening tip, and the game is underway. It would be Champlain Valley Athletic Conference girls's Basketball action from Plattsburgh High as the Hornets would host #14 Saranac Spartans. It would take some time to get the first score of the game. We would be halfway through the first quarter before our first basket, but when the scoring came, the Spartans would string a few together and have the 11-3 lead after the first quarter. When the second quarter came around, the Hornets would find their shot, but they would not be able to chip into the deficit. The Hornets would win the quarter 12-11, but the Spartans would have the 22-15 lead at the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter, the Spartans would stay hot with an 11-8 quarter and take a 33-20 lead into the fourth quarter. With the Spartans having the game pretty much in hand, it would be a slower pace in the fourth quarter played, and the teams would tie for the quarter at eight as the Spartans would get the 41-28 victory. With the win for the Spartans, they go to 9-2 in the season as they return home next week. As for the Plattsburgh Hornets would fall to 3-6 on the season as they head into their game against the Beekmantown Eagles on Tuesday. Gallery

The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would return home to start the 2025 home portion of their season with a game inside the SUNYAC and also a matchup between top ten teams as the #7 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the #6 Oswego State Lakers in the first of a pair of games on the weekend at the field house. The game would be evenly matched for the first 30 minutes as neither team could light the lamp, but not for not having chances on the net. The Cardinals would finally break through on the powerplay at 10:35 when Mattie Norton sliced it through the defenders for the 1-0 lead. The game would stay there till the 2:21 mark of the third period when the Cardinals would find the back of the net, this time from Tessa Morris, for the 2-0 lead. From there, the Cardinals would shut down the Lakers and get the 2-0 win. In the winning effort on the afternoon, Chloe Lewis recorded the shutout as she has 28 saves, and the Cardinals go to 9-2-1 on the season, and they will take on the Lakers again tomorrow. As for the Oswego State, the Lakers would suffer their first loss in the season and go to 8-1-1 as they return to the field house tomorrow. Gallery
