Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Baseball: Northeastern Clinton Cougars @ Plattsburgh Hornets April 6th 2022

Plattsburgh's Bostyn Duquette (4) slides under the tag at second base with the stolen base. The Plattsburgh Hornets would host the Northeastern Clinton Cougars at the first game at the new baseball field as part of the Plattsburgh High School Athletic Complex. The game would start off good for the home Hornets as they would get two runs thanks to Duquette and Trombley. Then in the second inning, the Hornets would add another run because of an error as the Hornets extend their lead to 3-0. Then in the fourth inning, the Hornets would add another run thanks to a rbi single and take the 4-0 lead. In the fourth inning, the Cougars would get on the board on the sacrifice fly by Ebersol for a 4-1 game. Although in the bottom of the fourth the Hornets retake their four-run on the sac fly by Bostyn Duquette for the 5-1 game. Then in the fifth inning, the Hornets would add two more runs thanks to the king's hit for the 7-1 lead. Then in the sixth inning, the Hornets would blow the game wide open as they would explode for a nine-run inning highlighted by a pair of extra-base hits by Trombley and King as they would make it a 16-1 game and that's where the game would finish up. With the win, the Hornets get their season started off right at 1-0 while the Cougars are still looking for a win as they are 0-2. Gallery

SUNY Poly Wildcats @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals NCAA Division III Baseball April 4th 2022

Plattsburgh State's Kolby Mordecki (17) delivers the strike as part of a 4 hit 4 strike-out performance. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would be back in action Monday, April 4th for their 4th game in four days as they would take on the SUNY Poly Wildcats in non-conference action. The game would start off good for the home Cardinals as Melfi would have the rbi double for the 1-0 lead after one. The Cardinals would stay hot in the second with three more runs highlighted by an error that would score two cardinals for the 4-0 lead. The Wildcats would get on the board in third thanks to a Cardinals error. The Cardinals would get a solo run in the third on Wein rbi single for the 5-1 lead. In the fourth inning, the Cardinals would break the game wide open with a six-run inning highlighted again by Wein this time with a 2 rbi hit, and have an 11-1 lead. In the sixth inning, the teams would trade a pair of runs both coming by the way of the wild pitch for a 12-2 game. The Wildcats would get another run in the seventh on the rbi double by Montrose for the 12-3 game. In the eighth inning, the Cardinals would get two more runs to end the scoring for the night on a pair of rbi singles by Roman and Cergol for the 14-3 victory. In the winning effort, Mordecki would get credit for the win going five innings giving up 1 run on four hits while striking out four as the Cardinals go to 9-6 on the season. Gallery

SUNYAC Softball Oneonta Red Dragons @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals April 3rd 2022

Plattsburgh State's Claire Palmer (7) slaps the tag on Oneonta State's baserunner on the steal attempt. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals were back in action the next day as they would take on the Oneonta State Red Dragons in doubleheader action. The Red Dragons would get first blood as they would get four runs in the third inning highlighted by a 2 rbi double by Serena. The Red Dragons would get a single run in the fourth and fifth to make it a 6-0 game. The Cardinals would get on the board in the fifth with a fielders choice by Kelsey Waite to make it a 6-1 game. Then in the sixth inning, the Red Dragons would add three more runs lead by Serena 2 rbi double for the 9-1 lead to invoking the mercy rule as the Cardinals lose game 1 and fall to 5-8 on the season. After a twenty-minute break, the teams would return for the second game of the doubleheader and it would once again start off badly for the Cardinals as they would give up three runs in the first inning led by Digiovanni rbi single. Although in the bottom of the inning the Cardinals would answer back with a pair of runs by Sam Gentile and Kelsey Waite for a 3-2 game. The Red Dragons would extend the lead back to a Cardinals error making it 4-2. The Red Dragons would make it a three-run game on a rbi single by Mangone in the fifth inning. The Cardinals would answer back in the fifth as Golino would score on a wild pitch. The Cardinals would make it a one-run game in the sixth inning on a rbi single by Golino at 5-4. Although in the top of the seventh the Red Dragons would put the final touches on the sweep for the day on a rbi double by Hussey and secure the 6-4 win. In the loss, the Cardinals fall to 5-9 on the season and will be back in action on April 5th as they travel to St. Lawerence and take on the Saints. Gallery

Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Softball: Peru Nighthawks @ Plattsburgh Hornets April 5th 2022

Plattsburgh's shortstop with the juggling catch on the pop-up in the middle of the infield. It would be the season opener for the Plattsburgh Hornets and the Peru Nighthawks in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action at the redone Plattsburgh Hornets field. The game would start off fast and furious for the home Hornets as they would get six runs in the first for the early 6-0 lead. The Hornets would continue the offense in the second inning as they would get three more to extend their lead to 9-0. The early game success would continue in the third with another two runs and they were off to the races with an 11-0 lead. The game would stay there all the way to the 6th inning when the Nighthawks would finally get on the board with a pair of runs for the 11-2 game. Although the Hornets would get four runs in the sixth to make it a 15-2. Then the last inning the Nighthawks would get a pair as they made a last-ditch effort at the game as the Hornets get the 15-4 win and go to 1-0 on the season while the Nighthawks fall to 0-1 Gallery

Canton Kangaroos @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals NCAA Division III Baseball April 2nd 2022

Plattsburgh State's Sean Malamud (35) with the stretch at first to beat the runner for the out, The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would open up their home portion of their schedule with a non-conference doubleheader against the Canton Kangaroos at Chip Cummings Field. The first game would start off slow as there would be no scoring til the 4th inning when the Kangaroos would get on the board with a home run by Miner for the 1-0 lead. Although the Cardinals would answer back in the bottom, of the inning with a 6 run explosion highlighted by a two rbi triple by Lent for the 6-1 game. Although Canton would work their way back into the game with a three-run fifth inning. But in the bottom of the inning, the Cardinals would take control of the game with a nine-run inning highlighted by a three rbi double by Messersch and a 15-4 lead. Then in the sixth inning, the Cardinals would get three more runs thanks to some Canton errors but an 18-4 lead. In the seventh, the Cardinals would get another four runs to expand the lead to 22-4 highlighted by a pair of rbi singles by Cremin and Digiovanni. The scoring would stop in the eighth innings as the teams would each get 1 run as the Cardinals secure the 23-5 win and go to 7-6 on the season. After a 20 minute break, it would be time for game two of the doubleheader and in the third inning, the Cardinals would get the 1-0 lead on the Geraci hit by a pitch that brought the run-in. In the fourth inning, the Cardinals would expand their lead to 2-0 on the Lent sacrifice fly. In the top of the fifth, the Kangaroos would get on the board with a two rbi single by Kapfer and tie the game. The game would stay there till the sixth when the Cardinals take the lead back at 3-2 on an error. Although the Kangaroos would tie the game again in the top of the seventh on a rbi single by Kapfer. In the bottom of the seventh, the Cardinals would win the game on the walk-off walk for the 4-3 win and secure the sweep, and go to 8-6 on the season. Gallery

SUNYAC Softball New Paltz Hawks @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals April 2nd 2022

Plattsburgh State's Kelsey Waite (26) with the tag on the New Paltz base runner that got caught in a run down. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would open up the conference portion of their season as they would host the New Paltz Hawks in doubleheader action. The first game would be low scoring affair as the Cardinals would get single runs in the third and fourth innings. The scoring plays would come from Langdon in the third on a bunt rbi and a rbi double by Gentile for the 2-0 win. In the winning effort, Golino would go the distance for a shutout win while striking out six as they go to 4-7 on the season. After about a twenty break the teams would return for the second game of the doubleheader. The scoring would start quickly in the second game as the teams would trade runs in the second thanks to a rbi single by Maggiacomo to tie the game at one after two innings. Although the tie would not last long as the Hawks would get 3 runs in the top of third for a 4-1 lead. Although in the bottom of the fourth inning the Cardinals would explode for eight runs thanks in large part to a three rbi triple by Langdon to take the 9-4 lead and that's where the game would stay for the win. In the win, the Cardinals would earn the sweep on the day as Kristina Maggiacomo would strike out 12 in the complete-game win as they go to 5-7 on the season. The Cardinals will be back in action tomorrow as they will take on the Oneonta State Red Dragons. Gallery

SUNYAC Men's Lacrosse Oswego State Lakers @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals March 2nd 2022

Plattsburgh State's Stephen Kane (11) takes the hard-hit from the Lakers defender as he charged to the net. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would return home after a few weeks away and play the rival Oswego State Lakers in SUNYAC action. The game would not start off good for the Cardinals as the Lakers would shut them out in the first quarter with a 6-0 quarter on the strength of a pair of goals by Corey O'Connor. In the second quarter, the Cardinals would get on the board but the Lakers would win the quarter 5-3 with Cardinal goals by Stephen Kane (twice) and John Eiseman but would trail at the break 11-3. When the teams would return for the third quarter the Lakers would stay on top with a 5-2 quarter with John Eiseman (second and third of the night) and the Cardinals would trail 16-5 as they go to the fourth quarter. In the fourth, the Cardinals still had no with a lakers 3-2 quarter scoring for the Cardinals again would be Kane and Eiseman. Although it would not be enough on this day as the Cardinals fall to 2-7 on the season and will be back in action on April 5th as they take on #15 St. Lawerence. Gallery

Fredonia State Blue Devils @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals SUNYAC Women's Lacrosse April 2nd 2022

Plattsburgh State's Caitlin Nash (23) with the tight defense on the Fredonia State attacker to break up the attack. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would open up the home portion of their SUNYAC season against the Fredonia State Blue Devils. The game would start off good for the home cardinals as they would have a 5-3 lead after the first quarter on the strength of goals by Fiona Fitzgerald, Davina Gyedu, Kate Kennedy, Emily Caoili, and Lindsay Guzzetta while Fredonia's Moly McGowan (twice, and Erin Woods. In the second quarter, the Cardinals would break the game open on the strength of a 4-0 quarter on goals from Caroline Noia, Emma McLaughlin, Davina Gyedu (second), Caitlin Nash for the 9-3 lead at the break. When the teams came back for the third quarter the defenses would be on display as they would tie the quarter 2-2 with the Cardinal goals from Caroline Noia (second) and Jordan Kowalski but they would take the 11-5 lead into the fourth. In the fourth quarter, the Cardinals would win the quarter for a 14-7 win on goals from Lindsay Guzzetta (second), Emma McLaughlin (second), and Caroline Noia (third). In the winning effort the Cardinals go to 3-4 on the season as Lilla Nease and Johanna Malone would combine for 8 saves while Fredonia State falls to 0-7 on the season. Gallery

Russell Sage Gators @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse March 8th 2020

Plattsburgh State's Jordan Kolwaski (26) with the goal right in front of the net as part of a three-goal game. It would be nonleague action that would feature the Plattsburgh State Cardinals and the Russell Sage Gators from the Plattsburgh State Fieldhouse Lacrosse complex. The game would start off good for the Cardinals as they would jump out on the Gators with a 6-0 quarter on goals from Nicole Resnick, Caroline Noia, Emily Caoili, Melanie Winters, and Jordan Kowalski (twice). In the second quarter, the Cardinals would keep the firepower going with a 6-3 quarter on goals from Caitlin Nash, Kate Kennedy (twice), Fiona Fitzgerald, and Caroline Noia (twice) and take the 12-3 lead into the half. When the teams came back for the second half the defenses on both sides would step up as for the half the Cardinals would win 3-2 on goals from Kate Kennedy (third), Jordan Kowalski (third), and Emily Caoili (second) as they secure the 15-5 victory. In the winning effort, the Cardinals would combine to make 8 saves as they go to 2-4 on the season while the Gators fall to 3-5 on the season. Gallery

Clarkson Golden Knights @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse March 22nd 2020

Clarkson's Sofie Mangino (13) with the turn and burn in the offense zone and scores her lone goal of the game. It would be a nonleague matchup at the Plattsburgh State Fieldhouse Soccer/Lacrosse Complex as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Clarkson Golden Knights in Women's Lacrosse. The first quarter of the game would not go well for the Cardinals as they would be down 7-2 with the lone goals for the Cardinals would come from Fiona Fitzgerald and Caroline Noia while scoring for the Golden Knights would be Madelynn Barnum (four), Hailey Millington (twice) and Sofie Mangino. In the second quarter, the Golden Knights would put the game out of reach with a 7-0 quarter and take the 14-2 lead at the break scoring for the Golden Knights would be Mia Petrone, Julia Lavarnway (three), Sydney Roderick, Madelynn Barnum (fifth) and Grace Hagberg. When the teams returned for the third quarter the Golden Knights would let off the gas with a 3-0 quarter and take the 17-2 into the fourth on goals from Julia Lavarnway (fourth) Hailey Millington(third) and Sydney Roderick (second). In the fourth quarter with the game in hand, the Cardinals would actually get the quarter 3-1 on goals from Rachel LaMar, Caroline Noia (second), and Maddy Garcia while Julia Patterson would score for the Golden Knights for the 18-5 victory. The Golden Knights' netminders would combine for five saves as they go to 6-0 while the Cardinals combine for 18 saves as they go to 1-3 on the season. Gallery
