With a spot in the program's 12th consecutive sectional final on the line, the top-seeded Chazy Eagles left little doubt Tuesday night, overpowering the No. 4 Lake Placid Blue Bombers 5-0 in the NYSPHSAA Section VII Class D semifinals. The win keeps Chazy's perfect 18-0 season alive and sends the Eagles back to the Section VII Class D championship game for the 12th straight year. It is the latest achievement for a program that has established itself as one of New York State's premier small-school soccer programs. The Johnsburg/Minerva Jaguars will face the Eagles in the title match on October 31 at Plattsburgh High School, with another Section VII championship on the line. From the opening whistle, Chazy showcased why it entered the match unbeaten and ranked No. 2 in New York State. The Eagles needed just three minutes to strike. Landon Duprey opened the scoring on an assist from Aiden Howell, igniting an attack that controlled the match from start to finish. Chazy dictated possession throughout the first half and kept the Lake Placid defense under constant pressure. The sustained pressure paid off again in the 24th minute when Jacoby Weeden found the back of the net with an unassisted effort, doubling the Eagles' lead and sending them into halftime with a comfortable 2-0 advantage. Any hopes of a Lake Placid comeback quickly vanished after the break. Duprey struck again in the 45th minute on an unassisted goal just moments into the second half. The standout forward completed his hat trick in the 59th minute after taking a pass from Zeke McLennan, pushing the advantage to 4-0 and bringing the home crowd to its feet. McLennan later joined the scoring column in the 68th minute, finishing an assist from Jack McAuliffe to cap a dominant offensive display and seal the win. The Eagles controlled every facet of the game. Chazy outshot Lake Placid 20-1, spent much of the match in the attacking third, and rarely gave the Blue Bombers chances to generate offense. Goalkeeper Henry Kapp made the lone save to preserve the shutout. Meanwhile, Lake Placid goalkeeper Josh Hobday delivered a courageous performance despite the result, turning away 18 shots from Chazy's relentless attack. As fog rolled across the field late in the second half, the Eagles calmly closed out another postseason triumph. The final whistle secured not only a spot in yet another championship game, but also extended one of the most impressive runs in Section VII soccer history. Now, with their 12th straight sectional final appearance secured, the Eagles stand one victory away from adding another championship to a legacy that has made them one of New York State's most consistently successful soccer programs. On Halloween night at Plattsburgh High School, the undefeated 18-0 Eagles will face the Johnsburg/Minerva Jaguars for the Section VII Class D crown, looking to continue a tradition of excellence that has become the standard in Chazy. PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — The Plattsburgh State Cardinals closed out their home schedule in impressive fashion Wednesday afternoon, blanking the SUNY Cobleskill Tigers 3-0 in NCAA Division III women's soccer action at the Plattsburgh State Field House Complex. In the first-ever meeting between the two programs, Plattsburgh State controlled play from the opening whistle, generating sustained offensive pressure while limiting Cobleskill's opportunities. The victory provided a fitting conclusion to the Cardinals' regular-season home slate in front of 120 fans. The Cardinals struck early and never looked back. Lia Park opened the scoring in the eighth minute, finishing off a Plattsburgh attack to give the home side a 1-0 advantage. The goal rewarded a strong opening stretch, as the Cardinals spent much of the first half in the attacking third. Despite pressure throughout the contest, Cobleskill stayed within striking distance thanks to an outstanding effort from goalkeeper Sammy Fausti. The Tigers' netminder repeatedly turned away scoring chances and kept the deficit at a single goal for much of the afternoon. Plattsburgh State finally broke the match open late in the second half. Lauren Marotta doubled the Cardinals' lead in the 72nd minute before Lilley Keyser found the back of the net just one minute later, putting the game out of reach and extending the advantage to 3-0. While the offense generated the goals, the Cardinals were equally dominant on defense. Goalkeeper Desiree Dubois was tested only once and made the save, preserving the shutout behind a disciplined back line that gave Cobleskill little room to operate. Fausti finished with 23 saves, a remarkable performance despite constant pressure from the Cardinals' attack. With the win, Plattsburgh State heads into its regular-season finale at Cortland with momentum on its side, while Cobleskill will wrap up its season against Fredonia.Gallery

Peru's Matthew Trombley (gk) makes a diving stop on a direct kick from the Hornets. PLATTSBURGH — When the game was on the line, Alex Watts delivered once again. Watts scored his second goal in the 88th minute of overtime to lift the No. 11 state-ranked Peru Nighthawks to a 2-1 win over the Plattsburgh Hornets in NYSPHSAA Section VII boys soccer action. Peru entered the contest with an 11-2-2 record and controlled early momentum, breaking through in the 18th minute when Watts put the ball in the back of the net to give the Nighthawks a 1-0 lead. The Hornets, playing their regular-season finale, refused to go away quietly. After weathering Peru's pressure throughout much of the evening, Plattsburgh found its breakthrough in the 58th minute. Colin Walker delivered the equalizer, sending new energy through the Hornets and knotting the score at 1-1. From there, both teams traded chances in a physical, playoff-style battle. Peru goalkeeper Matthew Trombley made key saves throughout the contest, finishing with five to keep the Nighthawks within striking distance. With regulation unable to separate the two teams, the match moved into overtime. Peru's leading scorer didn't take long to make the difference. Watts struck again in the 88th minute, burying the game-winner and securing the Nighthawks' 12th victory of the season. The win pushes Peru to 12-2-2 as the Nighthawks prepare for their regular-season finale on October 22 against Brushton-Moira. For Plattsburgh, the loss closes the regular season at 5-9-1. Still, the Hornets showed plenty of fight against one of the state's top-ranked programs, forcing overtime before Watts ultimately provided the deciding moment.Gallery

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — The Seton Catholic Knights broke open a scoreless match in the second half, scoring four goals in 12 minutes to earn a 4-0 victory over the Boquet Valley Griffins in NYSPHSAA Section VII boys' soccer action. The contest remained deadlocked through the opening 40 minutes as both teams battled for possession and defensive positioning. Boquet Valley, entering the match with a 0-8 record, held firm throughout the first half and kept the Knights off the scoreboard despite several Seton Catholic opportunities. They added a second goal in the 61st minute, then erupted for two more in quick succession in the 63rd and 64th minutes to put the match out of reach. Plattsburgh's Moses Leite (11) used a toe flick to gain control of the ball and get around the Griffin's defender. PLATTSBURGH-After spending the previous two weeks on the road, the Plattsburgh Hornets returned home Tuesday evening and put together one of their most impressive performances of the season, rolling past the Boquet Valley Griffins 11-0 in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference boys soccer action. The game stayed scoreless through the opening 24 minutes as both teams battled for an early breakthrough. That changed when Tino Marino found the back of the net to give the Hornets a 1-0 advantage. Once Marino broke the deadlock, the Plattsburgh offense took complete control. Over the next seven minutes, the Hornets erupted for four more goals. Aidan Drollette doubled the lead before Colin Walker added another tally. Raif Lautenschuetz then joined the scoring, and Marino capped the first-half surge with his second goal of the night. The five-goal outburst sent Plattsburgh into halftime with a commanding 5-0 lead. The Hornets wasted little time extending that margin after the break. Matt Whitbeck scored in the 45th minute to make it 6-0, and just two minutes later Lautenschuetz scored his second of the night to push the advantage to 7-0. Marino continued his standout performance throughout the second half. The Plattsburgh forward scored again in the 51st minute before adding another in the 60th minute to complete a four-goal night and give the Hornets a 9-0 lead. With the outcome firmly in hand, Plattsburgh continued to press forward during the final 20 minutes. Jakob Gumlaw and Jaden Lin each added goals to round out the scoring and seal the Hornets' dominant 11-0 victory. The win improves Plattsburgh to 3-4 on the season as the Hornets prepare for a non-league matchup against the Ogdensburg Blue Devils on Saturday. Boquet Valley is still searching for its first win of the season, falling to 0-7 overall. The Griffins will look to bounce back on Thursday when they host the Lake Placid Blue Bombers in their next CVAC contest. Gallery
