PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — With the 2026 championship season entering its final stretch, Airborne Park Speedway hosted its annual Make-A-Wish Night on Saturday evening, featuring a full card of racing highlighted by Twin 20-lap features for the JS Steel Sportsman Modifieds. By night's end, several championship battles had tightened while others saw contenders create valuable breathing room with only two races remaining. The evening began with the Crown Vic division, where nine competitors answered the call for a 20-lap feature. Trevor Jaques led the field to green and quickly established himself at the front, but all eyes were soon focused on eighth-place starter Richie Turner. Turner methodically worked his way through traffic before taking the lead in the opening laps. Once out front, he pulled away from the field and drove to his fifth victory of the season. The win proved doubly important as points leader Scott Richner struggled to a sixth-place finish, allowing Turner to leave the night with a four-point advantage atop the standings. The first of two JS Steel Sportsman Modified features saw 15 cars take the green flag. Cory Castell and Jamy Begor put on a spirited battle for the lead early in the event before Castell gradually found another gear. As the laps wound down, Castell stretched his advantage and crossed the finish line first to record the first Sportsman Modified victory of his career. Begor settled for second while championship leader Travis Bruno completed the podium in third. Bruno's solid finish, combined with a tenth-place result for title rival Heywood, allowed him to increase his championship edge to 16 points. Castell remained fifth in the standings, 52 points back and still within striking distance entering the season's final two events. The Hartson Total Opening 358 Modifieds then took center stage for their 30-lap main event. Chris Raabe started on the front row and wasted little time establishing control of the race. While Raabe drove away from the field, championship contenders Mike Mahaney and Felix Roy mounted impressive charges from tenth and eleventh starting positions. Both worked their way into the top three but were unable to challenge Raabe for the victory. Raabe collected his second win of the season and climbed to sixth in the standings. Meanwhile, Roy's strong finish cut Mahaney's championship lead to just nine points. The Renegades feature provided another chapter in the division's title fight. Steven Bresette led the opening laps before Billy Thwaits stormed to the front. Thwaits faced persistent challenges from Nathaniel Guay and Brad Bushey throughout the race but never relinquished the top spot. The victory was his seventh of the season and allowed him to expand his points lead to ten markers after Shawn Duquette recorded a fifth-place finish. In the Rain Pro of Vermont Limited Sportsman Modified division, Antony Boissonnault appeared poised to score his first career victory after leading much of the 20-lap contest. However, championship leader Gary English steadily reeled him in during the closing laps. English eventually made the winning pass and drove away to earn his third victory of the year. The win extended his points lead to 15 over Bro Roberts, while defending champion Kobe Hernandez remained third in the standings, 36 points out of the lead. The second Sportsman Modified feature may have produced the most exciting battle of the evening. Codie Aubin and Travis Bruno traded the lead during the early stages before Caleb Drugan emerged as a contender after starting eighth. Following a restart, Drugan worked his way around Bruno and took command of the race. Late in the event, Mike Wright charged spectacularly from 15th on the grid to challenge for the victory, but Drugan held firm to claim his second win of the season. Wright finished second ahead of Aubin, while Bruno's consistency proved valuable in the championship race. With Heywood struggling throughout both features, Bruno's lead ballooned to 32 points with only two races remaining. The Mini Stocks brought 25 cars to the speedway for a thrilling 15-lap feature. J.J. Laporte controlled the early laps while fending off challenges from Nick Harnden. Points leader J.P. Corrow steadily advanced from 13th starting position and joined the fight for the lead late in the race. A late caution set up a dramatic restart, and Corrow edged Laporte in a thrilling side-by-side finish at the checkered flag to score his second victory of the season. With Speedy Bresette finishing fifth, Corrow increased his championship lead to 45 points. The evening concluded with a 40-lap Enduro. After surviving the chaos and attrition that traditionally accompany the division, Lopes emerged victorious. The win helped him maintain a 14-point advantage in the standings heading into the closing weeks of the season. As Round 12 came to a close, several championship battles remain undecided, while others are beginning to take shape as contenders separate themselves from the field. PLATTSBURGH — After three consecutive weeks lost to weather, Airborne Park Speedway roared back to life on Thursday, July 2, with a packed feature‑only program highlighted by the Firecracker 44 for the Sportsman Modifieds. With extreme heat pushing the start time to 8 p.m., six divisions took the track and delivered a full night of action as several championship battles tightened heading into mid‑summer. Thirteen Mini Stocks opened the evening with the first of two 20‑lap features. The race quickly settled into a three‑car fight among Nick Harnden, Haiden Bordeaux, and Randy Martin. Harnden controlled the pace throughout and secured his first win of the season, moving into ninth in the standings as he begins to chase down points leader Jake Fountain. The RainPro of Vermont Limited Sportsman Modifieds followed with 13 cars answering the call for their 25‑lap feature. Josh Patterson paced the early laps while Cody Gregoopoulos kept him in range, but the charge came from the fourth row as Brogan Roberts and Gary English worked forward. The pair eventually overtook Patterson and staged a tight late‑race duel, with Roberts claiming his first Airborne win of the season. The victory trims English’s points lead to nine. Ten Renegades rolled out next for their 25‑lap feature. Billy Thwaits and Nathaniel Guay battled early before Thwaits steadily pulled away, earning his third win of the season. As the laps wound down, Evan Roberts mounted a charge, taking the lead with seven laps remaining and driving off to claim the $2,000 victory. Begor finished second with McClatchie third. Points leader Nick Heywood finished fifth, and Roberts’ win cuts Heywood’s advantage to 21 points. Thirteen Crown Vics took the green for their 20‑lap feature, with Josh Muir leading early before Richie Turner and Trevor Jaques reeled him in. It would be a three-way battle for the lead in the 9th State Cannabias Renegades between Billy Thwaits (30), Tyler Irwin (54), and Shawn Fountain (007) for the lead, and Thwaits would get the win on the day. It would be the start of championship weekend from the Airborne Park Speedway to finish the 2025 season and the J+S Steel Sportsman Modified, Hoosier Limited Sportsman Modified, 500cc Mini Sprints, Mini Stocks, 9th State Cannabias Renegades, Crown Vics, and Enduro. After all the heat racing was done, it was on to the features for the day. The first one out of the box would be the J+S Steel Sportsman Modified non-winners event for 25 laps. Chris Cayea would take the lead off the start and would establish a good-sized lead on the field. However, there would still be a challenge coming from the likes of Evan Roibert, and in the closing lap, he would chase him down, take the lead, and get the eventual win. Then it would be the first segment of the 500cc Mini Sprints event, and it would see Gage Provencher get the lead off the start, but Scott Bachand would challenge him in the 15-lap event, and Bachand would get the first stage win, and they would settle the overall winner on Sunday in the 15-lap segment two. Then it would be on to the Crown Vics in their 15-lap event, and it would see a great battle up front for the early point of the event between Eric Friend and Richie Turner. Friend would take control of the race when Turner would find the turn four wall, but they will be back at it again Sunday to finish off the doubleheader. Hen would have the last Hoosier Limited Sportsman Modified feature of the season for 25 laps a. Itould see Adam LaFountain get the lead off the start of race and get a huge lead going Brogan Roberts would do his best to try and make it close but just had no answer also on the day Kobe Hernandez would be crowned the 2025 Hoosier Limited Sportsman Modified track champion as he would win the title by 83 over Parker Dermody. Then the 9th State Cannabias Renegades would take center stage for their first of two features on the weekend, and Tyler Irwin would get the lead off the start of the race. Still, he would be quickly challenged by Billy Thwaits for the lead, and he would hold on to get his first win of the season and all but lock up the title for Tylor Terry. As long as he shows up on Sunday, he will be crowned the 2025 track champion. Then it would be the Mini Stocks in their 20-lap event, and Josh Laporte would take the lead at the start of the race. Still, he would have challengers coming after a few quick cautions in the race that would re-rack the field, and Ryan Senecal would get around him for the lead. Still, Senecal would have a challenge down the stretch in the likes of Speedy Bressette, but would get the win and also be crowned the 2025 Mini Stock track champion. Then, to finish off the day of racing would be the 50-lap enduro, which would see Bobby Hamel take the lead at the start and hold it until about the halfway point, when Walter Scram would pass him for the victory over Randy Martin and Beau Reeves. Stove Depot Night at the Prelude to the 2025 championship took place at Devil's Bowl Speedway, featuring the Sunoco Sportsman Modified, O'Reilly Auto Limited Sportsman Modified, Hoosier Novice Sportsman Modified, Friends Construction 500cc Mini Sprints, Fisher Auto Parts Mini Stocks, Crown Vics, and Enduro Series all in action. After the heat races, the first feature of the night was the Sunoco Sportsman Modified, where a three-way battle for most of the 30 laps involved Frank Hoard III, Vince Quenneville, and Jim Nagle, all vying for their first win of the season at the track. Ultimately, Vince Quenneville powered past Jim Nagle to take the victory, with Derrick McGrew Jr. finishing third. Next was the O'Reilly Auto Parts Limited Sportsman 25-lap event, a contest between two championship contenders with two races remaining. Jason Quenneville secured his first win of the season, extending his points lead. The Hoosier Novice Sportsman Modified 20-lap race saw James McLellan lead from the start, but mid-pack charger Aiden Benoure overtook him in the closing laps to earn his second win of the season. The Friend Construction 500cc Mini Sprints 15-lap race resulted in Quinn Quenneville’s first win of the year, completing the Quenneville family’s triple on the night as he advanced from mid-pack. In the Fisher Auto Parts Mini Stocks, the first of two feature races, Chase Allen, making one of his first starts of the season from the back, charged through the field to win. The second Mini Stock feature saw Kaleb Shepard make a comeback from the back, racing alongside Jon Jordan for the win, with Shepard ultimately prevailing. The 20-lap Crown Vic event was contested between top points leaders TJ Knight and Eric Friend, with Knight securing the victory and both heading into the final race of the season tied. To conclude the evening, a 50-lap Enduro saw Dan Desforges start 21st, charge through the field, take the lead within a few laps, and walk away to claim his second season win. It would be the ninth race of the 2025 season from the Devils Bowl Speedway, and it would be Rutland Regional Medical Center Local Heroes Night, with all six divisions in attendance. The O'Reilly Auto Parts Limited Sportsman Modified Twin 20s would be the headliner of the night. After all the heat races were completed, the first feature of the night would be the first of two twin 20s for the O'Reilly Auto Parts Limited Sportsman Modified. It would be a battle up front between mother and daughter for the victory as Bobbi Hults would get the win over her daughter Katrina Leclaire in the 20-lap affair. Next up would be the Friend Construction 500cc Mini Sprints, and it would see John Smith take the lead from the start of the race. However, the defending track champion, Gage Provencher, would chase him down from a considerable distance and secure his fourth win in his last five races. Next up would be the Sunoco Sportsman Modified for their 30-lap event, where Brent Warren would take the lead from the start of the race. However, it would be short-lived, as Dave Camara would pass him for the lead, and then the battle would be on between him and defending track champion Tim LaDuc. LaDuc would get to the line first for his first win of the season. Then on track would be the 9th State Cannabis Crown Vics for their 15-lap event, which would once again see Eric Friend get the win over TJ Knight for his fourth win of the season. Then we would have the Hoosier Novice Sportsman Modified for their 220-lap event, a nd it would see Mark McGinnis lead the whole race for his first career victory. However, it would not be without competition. There would be multiple green-white-checkered finishers in the other race. Then it would be time for the second of the Twin 20's for the O'Reilly Auto Parts Limited Sportsman Modified. It would see Tyler go wire to wire for the victory. Then it would be time for the Fisher Auto Parts Mini Stocks that would have split features on the evening and would see Dawson Thompson get the lead off the start of the first one, but Jeremy Brownell Jr would get chase him down from the 14th starting spot and get around him for the win after Thompson pulled off In the second feature for the Mini Stocks it would see Brian Blake get the lead off the start of the race. Still, this time it would be the other half of the Brownell racing family getting the win on the night, completing the father-son wins of the night. Then, to finish off the night, it would be an Enduro 50 lap event, and it would see its third different winner of the season, as Jason Porter would start at the tail of the field and come all the way up for the victory.
